Abstract:

GdCaAl3O7:Eu red nano-phosphors were synthesized by solution combustion using urea as fuel. Fourier-transform infrared, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope and photoluminescence spectrophotometer were used to characterize the obtained samples. XRD patterns revealed that GdCaAl3O7:Eu pure phase was formed by combustion of metal nitrate solution in the presence of urea at pH= 1 without further calcination step. Further increase of pH values resulted in the formation of impure GdAlO3 phase. Moreover, for a constant pH, fuel to oxidizer variations did not affect the structure of the samples. Morphological studies revealed that flake like structure has changed to spongy like by increasing the pH value of metal nitrate solution from 1 to 4. Photoluminescence properties of obtained samples showed that at pH =1 emission ranging from 580-630 nm is observed. The characteristic peaks at 595 nm and 615 nm can be assigned to and transitions, respectively. Prog. Color Colorants Coat. 3(2010), 110-117. © Institute for Color Science and Technology.

One Step Rapid Synthesis of Nano-Crystalline ZnO by Microwave-Assisted Solution Combustion Method

In this study nano-crystalline ZnO particles were synthesized by microwave-assisted solution combustion method. Zinc nitrate and urea were used as oxidizer and fuel, respectively. The effect of fuel to oxidizer (F/O) ratio on ZnO powder properties was investigated by using different urea/nitrate ratios. X-ray diffractometer, scanning electron microscopy and fourier transform infra-red were used...

Microwave-Assisted Preparation of High Entropy Alloys

Microwaves at the ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical, reserved internationally) frequency of 2450 or 5800 MHz have been used to prepare FeCoNiCuAl, FeCrNiTiAl and FeCoCrNiAl2.5 high entropy alloys by direct heating of pressed mixtures of metal powders. The aim of this work is to explore a new microwave-assisted near-net-shape technology, using a powder metallurgy approach for the preparati...

Influence of fuel in the microwave assisted combustion synthesis of nano α-alumina powder

Microwave assisted combustion synthesis is used for fast and controlled processing of advanced ceramics. Single phase and sinter active nano crystalline alpha alumina powders were successfully synthesized by different fuel-to-oxidant molar ratios using aluminium nitrate as an oxidiser, glycine as a reducing agents and millipore water as a solvent by microwave assisted combustion synthesis. Ther...

Ultrasonic Assisted Preparation of Nano HMX

Size reduction of high energy materials such as 1, 3, 5, 7-tetranitro- 1, 3, 5, 7-tetraaza cyclooctane (HMX) has considerable influences on improving their explosive characteristics. In this study, nanosized HMX par‌ticles were produced using ultrasonically reprecipitation method by applying water as a safe and accessible antisolvent instead of unsafe conventional methods. SEM photographs revea...

Preparation of phytosterols and phytol from edible marine algae by microwave-assisted extraction and high-speed counter-current chromatography

A rapid method of microwave-assisted extraction coupled with high-speed counter current chromatography and UV detector was established for the preparation of phytosterols from edible marine algae. Extraction conditions, namely microwave power, liquid/solid ratio, irradiation time and extraction temperature were optimized using orthogonal array design. The microwave-assisted extraction of Undari...
